ADVANCES IN THE DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF THE RHEUMATIC DISEASES

Course Description

Now in its fourth year, this two-day symposium has been planned for the providers of care to patients with rheumatic diseases. Given the wide variety of rheumatologic disorders, and an ever-increasing number of diagnostic procedures and treatment options, it is necessary to provide clinicians with information about strategies for the early diagnosis of these conditions, novel state-of-the-art diagnostic tools, and opportunities to utilize the most effective treatments to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Who Should Attend

This activity is intended for rheumatologists, internists, gerontologists, orthopedic surgeons and other allied health professionals.

Objectives

Following this activity, the participant should be able to:

  1. Discuss recent advances in the use of biologic agents in the treatment of rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis.
  2. Appreciate the unique challenges associated with the treatment of the geriatric patient with rheumatic disease.
  3. Discuss new and emerging issues in the therapy and treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus.
  4. Understand major risk factors for the development and progression of osteoarthritis.
  5. Be able to recognize the major neurologic and dermatologic manifestations of the rheumatic diseases.
  6. Learn how to manage patients with Juvenile Chronic Polyarthritis.
  7. Understand the current approach to therapy for Fibromyalgia.
  8. Discuss the rheumatic manifestations of Lyme disease.
  9. Appreciate new advances in diagnosis and treatment for the inflammatory myopathies and systemic vasculitides.
