severe pain with rheumatoid arthritis

Question  I am 88 years old and have severe Rheumatoid Arthritis and the pain is very high. What pain medication would you recommend. Right now my Doctor has me on tylenol with acephatime, but it is not doing much for me. I also have a heart anurism (msp). Can you help my Doctor with pain medication for me?

Answer

Dear Jean,

unfortunately we cannot provide this type of advice over the internet.  I would strongly suggest that you explore pain medication options with your rheumatologist.  At the young age of 88, many medications can be dangerous and have to be handled with care and at the right doses.  This requires personal attention from your physician.  Good luck.
