RA and a sore wrist despite MTX and REmicade

 

Question  Hello Expert, I have had RA for last 5 yrs and it has been active for last year. I am on Remicade 125mg and take 4 MTX a week. My wrist is in pain very day especially nights. I am only 29 yrs old and am worried if this happens to my other wrist I will no longer be able to work. My rheumy does not want to give me surgery I don't see how my wrist will ever get better on its own. Please give me any advice. Thank you.

HI Carolyn,

Sounds like you should get another opinion from a second rheumatologist.  An MTX dose of only 10 mg per week is pretty low.  And a Remicade dose of 125 mg per ??6 or 8?? weeks is also low unless the patient's weight is only about 100 lbs.  Also, when one joint is still painful but the others are under control, it is important to rule out infection.  If infection is ruled out, a cortisone injection to the joint can help a lot.  Good luck !!
