Viscosupplementation for severe OA?

At 54, I would like to delay a TKR as long as I reasonably can, or at least until small incision surgery is the norm. The OA in my one knee is, however, moderate/severe. One physician dismissed my question about viscosupplementation by saying my knee was "too far gone". I would like to try viscosupplementation anyway. I'm not looking for a miracle: increased comfort and a good night's sleep would do just fine. Is there a medical downside to trying the viscosupplement, besides the normal risks of injection and the the cost? |

In general, the only downside of trying is the chance that it won't work. |
