Osteoarthritis

Question  I am an active 62 yr. old...taught Physical Education for 30 years..active in tennis..about a year ago my fingers on my right hand have become swollen and I cannot bend them.. also have cartledge build up on middle finger and index finger..since I have been playing golf, seems worse..and the fingers ache at night..what can I do to reduce the swelling? thanks, j
 
Answer  See our section on OA treatment. Arguably the only effective treatment is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID), such as ibuprofen, naproxen, and the newer COX-2 agents Celebrex, Vioxx, Bextra. We're in desperate need of better OA treatments.
