fibromyalgia and arthritis

How is it possible to have lupus, fibromalgia and arthritis at the same time |
|
We need to clarify some definitions. Arthritis simply means a joint related problem. There are many different types of arthritis. Lupus is a systemic, inflammatory illness that can have an inflammatory arthritis as part of it. So, many use the term "lupus arthritis". Fibromyalgia is different from arthritis. Fibromyalgia is a condition that consists of widespread diffuse musculoskeletal pain which involves the joints as well as the soft tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments) outside of the joint. Fibromyalgia patients have tender points in the soft tissues and generally have a normal joint exam (no swelling or decreased range of motion). The definitions are often confused because many patients with a true arthritis also have symptoms of fibromyalgia. |
