elevated total compliment blood test

Question  Can you tell me what an elevated total compliment blood test means. I understand this may be related to a collagen or autoimmue disease. I have been advised to see a doctor of rheumatology. My blood test was over 200 and normal is suppose to be between 0-50. Thank you very much.

Answer  "complement" levels can be elevated in chronic inflamamtion, but there are better tests such as CRP or sedimentation rates to assess chronic inflammation. High complement levels do not need a rheumatologic evaluation by themselves. Low complement levels can be seen in lupus and some types of vasculitis.
