elevated total compliment blood test

Can you tell me what an elevated total compliment blood test means. I understand this may be related to a collagen or autoimmue disease. I have been advised to see a doctor of rheumatology. My blood test was over 200 and normal is suppose to be between 0-50. Thank you very much. |

"complement" levels can be elevated in chronic inflamamtion, but there are better tests such as CRP or sedimentation rates to assess chronic inflammation. High complement levels do not need a rheumatologic evaluation by themselves. Low complement levels can be seen in lupus and some types of vasculitis. |
