A reactive arthritis, sometime called Reiter's Syndrome, can occur in response to a streptococcal infection. The inflammatory reaction in the joints is believed to be due to immune complex deposition in, rather than direct infection of, the joints. Reactive arthritis can last 3-12 months in the majority of patients. However, some patients can continue with symptoms beyond 12 months. |
