Question  How is moderate bone marrow edema treated in the first metatarsel Phalangeal joint (i.e. the great toe)in a 55 year old male?
 
Answer  Bone marrow edema is a finding seen on MRI scan. Bone marrow edema may be caused by trauma, osteoarthritis or inflammation such as rheumatoid arthritis. Treatment will vary depending on the cause.
