Can Statin Drugs Cause Dermatomyositis

Question  Can a statin drug like crestor cause dermatomyositis? If so, will the discontinuation of the statin drug able the body to return to normal?

Answer  Statins can cause inflammation in the muscle called myositis. This is very different than the specific disease dermatomyositis. The myositis caused by statins is a direct toxic effect of the statins on the muscle cells and resolves when the statins are stopped.
