Enbrel plus methotrexate - family planning

I am a male on Enbrel with Methotrexate, is it safe to start to have children? |

Methotrexate can affect DNA replication and thus there is potential to cause birth defects when taken by men or women. In men, methotrexate should be stopped 3 months prior to attempting pregnancy. (sperm are renewed every 90 days). There is no information about Enbrel when taken by men while attempting pregnancy. Given what we know about the drug, it is likely safe for men to take while trying to become pregnant. You should discuss further with your doctor. |
