marrow edema in the knee

Question  what is bone marrow edema?

Answer  This is an issue/terminology that has come about since the advent of MRI scanning of the joints. It is not exactly known what is going in the bone marrow, but it may represent inflammation or swelling of the marrow. Some investigators have felt that these lesions may represent or predict early damage in both RA and OA. However, this can be controversial as a clinical issue.
