Simponi vs Humira for Ankylosing Spondylitis

Question  would monthly simponi injections be better than biweekly humira injections for ankylosing spondylitis and do these 2 drugs prevent fusion of the spine in the long term

Answer  The FDA approval for both drugs is the same.  "Simponi is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with active ankylosing spondylitis"." Humira is indicated for reducing signs and symptoms in adult patients with active AS."  Both medicaations inhibit a cytokine called TNF or tumor necrosis factor.  There is no way to predict which will work better or if either will work at all.  While TNF inhibitors have helped many people by  curbing  the progression of AS, there is never a guarantee.  TNF inhibitors decrease inflammatory changes in the spine; the decrease in new damage is still unclear.
