Joints shared by RA and OA

 

Question  My wife has been recently diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis.she was put on diclofenec 100mgbd,given a shot of methyl prednisolone 80mg im stat and some exercise regime to be strictly followed.well, she responded very well and most of pain and stiffness is gone.what next,the doctor also wanted me to consider to start treatment with infliximab.so should i start the this drug rigth now or should i wait till she stop responding to nsaid.please reply
 
Answer  Great question, Karen.  They are often confused though, in truth, RA (rheumatoid arthritis) and OA (osteoarthritis) are very very different.  OA affects mainly the hips, knees, base of the thumb, and the great toe (bunion).  RA can affect all of those plus many more joints but RA causes warmth and swelling in the joints, whereas OA usually just causes pain.
